The videos compiled for the online event in 2020 The Sustainable Style Sessions featuring Records & Relics, Self Help Africa, Miss Daisy Blue and Barnardos and the students from St. John’s College will be screened all week. The upcycled outfits creatively crafted by St. John’s Fashion students adorned the exhibition wall space, together with information boards compiled by this year’s intake of students, who only started their course at the end of September. Superb effort in such a short time frame and in helping to curate the exhibition.

As per usual the theme for the Charity and Vintage stores was “Glitz & Glamour” and they did not disappoint in their choice of beautiful occasion wear. Participants included Barnardos, Self Help Africa, Enable Ireland and St. Vincent de Paul from the Charity Sector all based in North Main Street and from the Vintage Sector the couture elegance from Miss Daisy Blue, eccletic appeal from the Hummingbird Rooms and laid back chic from Records & Relics.
During the week repair, reuse and upcycling lunchtime workshops took place including with the exciting new social enterprise Revive Paint, based at Northside Community Enterprises, with Cork Community Bikes and a bunting making workshop with Louise Harrington.
The final event was the Meet the Designers from St. John’s Fashion Department. This was such an inspiring event, students Rob and Mary were questioned by tutor Theresa Neville regarding all aspects of their work from where they got inspiration, working with different fabrics and materials, to views on slow fashion and the challenges of establishing their own businesses. There is definitely an opportunity for Cork to take advantage of the amazing creativity, drive and passion of these students.
