National Walking Week Mindful Otter Walk

Monday is Mindful Walking Day, and nothing is more magical than seeing an otter or seal in the heart of the city, and you can see them most days if you know what you're looking for. But you also have to accept that they appear when they want to, and you have no control over if they decide to come out and frolic today.
So while we wait to see if the otters will appear, we can see & hear the story of miniature natural wildernesses hidden in the cracks & hollows of the quay walls of Cork. If the weather is right as we might also go late enough to see the city's bats coming out for the night.

Discover Shore Life & The Role of Citizens in Caring for Our Marine Area

Discover diverse marine life on and around this Blue flag beach with local and national marine ecologists at low tide. This event ties in with the EU Maritime Day Conference in Cork, Cork Harbour Festival and Ireland's National Biodiversity Week. It is a great opportunity to discover shore and marine life with representatives three of Ireland's leading environmental NGOs.
Following a short overview of this coastal zone and estuary, we will break up into 3 groups as follows:
Karin Dubsky, Coastwatch, will demonstrate some citizen science water testing and bioindicator monitoring methods, link these to EU water law and engage you in role play as part of a More4Nature Horizon project.
Grace Carr, Irish Wildlife Trust, will inform on the rays and sharks that inhabit our waters and how well managed Marine Protected Areas can help them and other species, whilst
Bernie Connolly, The Environmental Forum will explore how use of the diverse and delicate intertidal area and rockpools can impact on species and ecosystems.

A guided cycle through a scale model of the solar system
from the Sun at Patricks Bridge to Neptune at Blackrock
Castle Observatory. We will "visit" each planet in turn, learn
a little about it, get a feeling of the scale of the solar system
and have some fun on the way.

A guided cycle through the first 20 Billion years of the universe from the big bang at St Patrick's Bridge through the birth of the first stars. the birth of the Earth, the evolution of life, to today and on to the death of the sun and merger of our milky way galaxy with Andromeda at Blackrock Castle.
The Full Moon Cycle will follow from this cycle and begin at Blackrock Castle Observatory

A relaxed social cycle around the Southside of Cork City
The majority of this cycle will be off road and most of the rest on very quiet roads, it will be slow and easy so is particularly suited to those who are less confident cyclists
A Cycle out along the river to the Lee Fields, then along the Greenway behind CIT to Curraheen, though quite estate roads to the Greenway parallel to the N22 between the Bandon Road and Wilton, though quite estate roads and across the Cycle/Pedestrian bridge to Togher cross to join the Greenway Parallel to the N22 into the Tramore Valley Park for a picnic stop, leave the park via the Greenway Parallel to the N22 to Douglas Village, through the village to the Park on to the Green way to Donnybrook, back through Douglas village to the Green way behind Besskrook to Mahon Strand, past Blackrock Castle and alone the Marine back to the city.

A cycle out to Great Island out the old railway greenway. Cross on the ferry before cycling around Great Island There will be a break for a picnic in Marlog before Cobh with panoramic views of Cork harbour and beginning the journey back to the city.
This will be one of the longer, faster cycles of the week and involve busier roads and hills so will be particularly suited to more confident cyclists.
Note the cycle will depart at 12 but we'll have a bike doctor before at the fountain shortly after 11.

This cycle will be completely off-road apart from the first few hundred meters on the Grand Parade, it will be slow and easy so is particularly suited to those who are less confident cyclists.
You can join us on the Grand Parade at 12 noon or at Midleton railway station at 1:10, Irish Rail is providing a free rail transfer from Kent Station to Midleton Station for cyclists and their bikes free of charge to showcase the ease of traveling by bike and rail.

Bike Week Poetry Night
The Friary
Bike-themed poetry evening at The Friary, as well as cold pints, and classy cocktails they'll have free snacks. A chance to catch up with all the new friends you made on all the Bike Week Cycles.
We will hear the entries in the Bike Week Poetry Competion including the premier of pieces specially written for the event, and hear the winner announced.
We will also open the floor to anyone who wishes to perform.
If you would like to submit an entry to our bike themed poetry competition on the theme of journeys. Please submit them via email to theo@environmentalforum.ie
Prize for best poem will be €50 and other prizes will include assorted bike gear.

The Friary
For over 15 years, the annual Bike Week Art Exhibition has showcased bike and cycling-themed works from our local Cork artists and submissions from our International Mail Art Call.
The exhibition will remain open daily from 4:30 to 11:30 p.m. for viewing throughout Bike Week, including during several Bike Week events in the Friary. For ideal viewing, try to visit 4:30-6:30 pm.
Before Bike Week proper kicks off, we have the opening event 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 8th, followed by cycle-themed chats and company.

We are delighted to screen the impact version of the Mrs Robinson film in partnership with Project Dandelion and Natural Capital Ireland at Nano Nagle Place. Be inspired by the story of Mary Robinson an amazing and multi-faceted woman who, now an octogenarian, is still an incredible leader and activist.
The film compliments this Earth Day theme of "Our Power, Our Planet" and will set the backdrop to our panel discussion. Thrilled to have Project Dandelion's Special Projects Communicator, Laura Cook join us from the UK, with Deirdre Lane, Coordinator, Natural Capital Ireland and Theo Dillon, Project Development Officer, The Environmental Forum.

Want to be IN the Parade on St. Patrick's Day? Come Join the Environmental Forum in Cork city's St Patrick's Parade
The Environmental Forum is marching in Cork's St. Patrick's Day parade and we would like to give as many people as possible the chance to be in the Parade.
We have costumes, face paint, huge bikes dancers etc. and we won the best group in 2018, 2016, and 2022......
We need people to dance, drum, perform, cycle bikes, hold banners, or just march. So if you would like to be part of the Parade let us know and we'll find a place for you.

Those to be face painted/general assembly 11-11:50am Crawford & Co Corner of Anglesey St. & Copley St
Last minute arrivals at 12:15pm near the Corner of Copley St & Union Quay.

Please do wear layers & thermals underneath (especially for children) it’s may be quite cold (we can probably guarantee this from previous years).
You can have your face painted with a linked design or with the CEF colours which are green and blue representing our land & sea. Its a great cover-up if you want to disguise yourself!!
Children
Aside from the spare costumes from the Mahon Youth group. Children can dress up to represent food, animals, birds, trees and flowers etc. and often have costumes from other parties and events, whatever you have available and re-use is good!
