On 31st August Coastwatch launched it’s 30 year data on an open data platform which is a useful resource for researchers and others working in this area. Some pictures with the official ribbon cut by Frank McDonald, former Environmental Editor, Irish Times and co-founder of Coastwatch of this great citizen science project all those years ago. The workshop included presentations from Dr. Robert Wilkes, Seaweed and Seagrass Expert, EPA, Stephen Hull, Director ABPmer, Angel Duarte de Campos, Coastwatch International Technical Coordinator and the engine behind all of the work, Karin Dubsky, International Cooridinator.

We had a wonderful 2 days training on the 16th & 17th August in Baltimore and Adrigole welcoming over 40 new Coastwatchers who participated in the workshop and shore survey which was facilitated by Karin Dubsky, International Coordinator. Standing room only at the Adrigole venue. There was a widespread representation from Cork to Allihies and great to see such interest and concern for our beautiful coastline.
The official survey dates are the 15th September – 15th October 2018 and the Coastwatch map is live with people being able to book units here.
Anyone who couldn’t make the training days but are still interested in surveying can get in touch directly and we will facilitate your participation in as far as possible. There may also be another training in the Youghal area in early September.
